All aboard the hype train! Today at the Sony Experience 2016 event, developer Naughty Dog announced a sequel to the massively popular 2013 title The Last of Us. Part II, as its being called, is still early in development according to Creative Director Neil Druckmann. Fans did get a glimpse at what’s to come however in a trailer featuring a slightly older Ellie playing a somber tune on an acoustic guitar.

The original game is not even four years old and is already widely regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. That game featured deeply human storytelling through the journey of main characters Ellie, voiced by Ashley Johnson and Joel voiced by Troy Baker.
While many assumed the best selling game would obviously receive a sequel, according to Neil Druckmann in a blog post, things were a bit more complicated. “I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.” (Read the rest of what Neil had to say.)
Many are already raving about how this game is sure to be a masterpiece.
